Konttila is a very original and genuine example of a typical form of family living surroundings in earlier Finland from late 16Th century. As a matter of fact, the main farm building is one of the oldest buildings in the city of Kuopio, if not even the oldest, then it was build exactly  in 1770. This was not known as the city of Kuopio renovated the place in 2002. Later as the renovation was started it became clear that the buildings were much older as expected. Earlier estimation of the year of manufacture was 1845 cince that is when the first written rental agreement was signed by a farmer called Jussi Savolainen and can still be borrowed from the city archive. The farm was called Kokonmäen torppa back then and it became its modern name Konttila by the last rentalfarmer family, when they bought the farm for themselves. They later on sold the farm to the city of Kuopio which rented the place further to function as a outdoor cafe and nature and guiding center for anyone who happens to come by. The farm is located right in the middle of a city forrest called Puijo, which is used for recreational purposes by the citizens of the city or tourists from also abroad. The farm is only about one kilometer north from the main attraction for the tourists in Kuopio, the Puijo sight seeing tower. Konttila can  be reached by foot or by car by following the street signs and information posts around the Puijo forest, which is about 500 hectars big and is located right next to the city central. Konttila is open every day around the year at 11 am to 6 pm..We have few farm animals like a horse and a couple of goats and you can buy some refresments from our cafe. We alo organize guided day trips for tourist groups in Puijo forest and we tell you about the nature and history of Puijo area as well as of the city it self and Finland in general.
